Synopsis:FROM WOOD TO HAWAII. A MUSICAL JOURNEY - In 2019, the 600th Anniversary of the Discovery of Madeira (1419) was celebrated. We also remember, at that time, the trip of our first emigrants to the Hawaiian Islands, in 1879. In that trip, of four months and twenty-two days by boat, in this case theRavensgrag, our string instruments, namely the Rajão and the Braguinha were taken to that part of the Pacific Ocean. Three guitar masters followed on this trip: Manuel Nunes, Augusto Dias and José do Espírito Santo accompanied by two players João Fernandes and Luís Correia. The King and Princess of Hawaii became interested in these instruments, builders and musicians, giving them the opportunity to attend parties at the palace and open a workshop and store on the main shopping street in Honolulu.
