What is?
The Concert Cycle "Música nas Capelas" seeks essentially to give space to musical groups of chamber music that exist in the regional panorama, with the obvious aim of demonstrating and highlighting the vibrant artistic nobility, with eclectic parchments, existing in a land like Madeira.
This project is promoted by Associação RETOIÇA in partnership with Ponta do Sol City Council and with the collaboration of local companies and hotels.
Where does it take place?
The Concerts Cycle "Música nas Capelas" takes place mainly in the Capela de São Sebastião - Vila da Ponta do Sol. However, there may be concerts in the Capela de Santo António - Vila da Ponta do Sol (next to the Town Hall).
Why does it happen?
The Concert Cycle of “Música nas Capelas” in Ponta do Sol appears in September 2013 with the dual perspective of enhancing musical projects from various stylistic areas in conjunction with the heritage built in the historic center of Ponta do Sol, namely the Capelas de São Sebastião and Santo António.
When does it take place?
The Concert Cycle "Música nas Capelas" takes place between the months of October and May, with a periodicity of two or three weeks between them. Occasionally, concerts may be held outside this period.
How is it done?
These Cycles are based on annual artistic seasons with a total of 14 concerts, with a careful and diverse program. At the same time, it seeks to give special attention to the Madeiran musical tradition, presenting projects of remarkable interest in the regional artistic framework. On the other hand, not forgetting the roots of this concept, we sought to challenge some projects born in Ponta do Sol to present their work in the aforementioned Cycles.
The concert concept implemented in this project differs from the others in that it combines personalized artistic performance with an aesthetic concept inspired by past periods in our history, with lighting guaranteed by around 150 candles simultaneously.
Historic
As previously discussed, the concept "Música nas Capelas" appears in 2013 in response to a challenge proposed to the Municipality of Ponta do Sol, then led by Eng. Rui Marques. The project, meanwhile, has grown and gained its own status, already being part of the artistic and cultural panorama of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Since then, there have been five complete artistic seasons plus the season currently in progress with the following groups:
