What is?

Gaitada na Baixa is a joint project between the Sports and Nature Association - Ponta do Sol (ADN Ponta do Sol), Ponta do Sol Municipality and Retoiça - Cultural, Sports and Recreational Association, in a perspective of enhancing and enhancing the sunset. unique sunset from the sea front of the village of Ponta do Sol.

Where does it take place?

Gaitada na Baixa takes place on the rock in front of Ponta do Sol beach, commonly known as "Baixa".

Why does it happen?

Ponta do Sol is known for its exuberant and inspiring sea front which, in itself, attracts many vacationers. As such, and in a creative perspective that the various local associations have imprinted, it was considered the romantic possibility of making small musical notes, in a kind of soundtrack, at sunset, on the mythical rock called "Baixa". From possibility to certainty was a step, will and belief did the rest!

When does it take place?

Gaitada na Baixa takes place in the period of June and September, with a periodic spacing of 15/16 days (always according to the low tide in line with the sunset) at variable times.

How is it done?

Gaitada na Baixa is a musical note of approximately 15 minutes performed by a bagpipe player. This event starts 10 minutes before sunset and is free to access.

Historic

Gaitada na Baixa appears sporadically in 2016, the result of a mutual will of Ponta do Sol and Retoiça DNA to challenge the very logic of things and engender something with unique identity and charisma. The idea was not exactly "fresh or immediate" but the conviction grew that the condiments (madness, will, belief and... a piper) were guaranteed to take this project forward. Since then, this project has been growing and gaining its public (local and foreign).
